Known for the lush canopy of trees that overhang the streets and old homes, Bryker Woods is a peaceful community in north-central Austin. With a population of just over 16,000, the town consists primarily of residential neighborhoods and is home to a healthy mix of younger and older families. Developed between the 1930’s and 1950’s, the community is bordered by Westover on the south, 35th on the north, Shoal Creek on the east and MOPAC Boulevard on the west.
Despite the mere ten minute drive from downtown and some commercial intrusion in its northeast corner, Bryker Woods remains a relatively confined community. As a result, residents enjoy both the comfort and charm of a safe, older neighborhood. Furthermore, parents and children alike spend time at Seider’s Springs, Bailey, and Shoal Creek Park. The geography is certainly a reason why many families have lived here for such a long time.
Consistently emphasizing core family values, the Bryker Woods community attracts younger families with both its safe streets and strong schools. A division of the A.I.S.D., children attend either Casis or Bryker Woods elementary before heading to either Martin or O. Henry Middle Schools and, finally, Austin High. In addition, the residents take serious pride in their proactive PTA and neighborhood association.
